Temporary Residence

Temporary residence has three broad categories:

Visiting Canada: If you are planning to stay in Canada for an extended period of time you may need to apply for a Temporary Visa

Working in Canada: Nearly all types of temporary employment in Canada, you will require a work visa. (In some situations, you may not require a work permit.)

Studying in Canada: To join Canada for studying purpose you will need a study permit or a temporary visa.

Eligibility Criteria for Temporary Resident Visas

For applying a Temporary Resident visa for Canada you should have following eligibility. You must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years of age to apply as the primary visa applicant.
  • To be able to prove that your stay in Canada is temporarily and you will depart to your home country once your visit is complete.
  • Provide a proof for No Criminal Background.
  • Proof of your current immigration status in your home country/Canada.
  • Have sufficient funds for your stay in Canada.
  • Be set to attend the embassy interview or provide biometric information.
  • Provide medical examination results to prove that you will not be a burden on Canadian Health Authority.

You might have to meet the terms to further criteria, depending on the type of Temporary Resident visa that you are applying for.

Multiple Entry Visa: A multiple entry visa lets you visit Canada many times right through the validity length of your visa. This type of visa is valid for 10 years or until one month prior to the passport/re-entry visa expires, whichever comes first. With this type of visa, you will be able to enter and exit Canada several times within the visa’s validity period. Albeit you must arrive in Canada on or before the visa’s expiration date.

Single Entry Visa: Single entry visa lets you enter Canada only once. When you arrive at a Canadian port of entry, a Canada Border Services Agency officer will check your eligibility and then he will stamp your passport or provide documents for you stay approval. Your temporary resident status will expire six months from the day you landed in Canada. On the other hand, if you were provided with a visitor record, a student permit, or a work permit, it will have an expiration date on it.
